Kasatkina made it to the main draw of WTA event

Darya Kasatkina and Tamara Kupkova from EMPIRE Tennis Academy played in qualifying rounds of women’s tournaments. Russian player tried her luck on main WTA circuit, while Slovakian Kupkova played at 10 000 USD event in Egypt.

Darya Kasatkina, 18 year old player coached by Vladimir Platenik, played at the WTA Bucharest Open in Bucharest, Romania and in the first qualifying round she met 23-year old Ukrainian Anastasiya Vasylyeva. Member of our academy won 6-0, 6-2 and on Sunday in 2nd qualifying round, she played Romanian Cristina Even, No.  425 in WTA rankings. Darya Kasatkina took another straight sets win after dominant performance, 6-1, 6-2.

She also succeeded in finals of the qualifying, when she beat Greek Maria Sakkari 6-1, 7-5 and she will join the main draw of the WTA tournament for third time in her career (after Moscow 2014 and Marrakech 2015, where she received wild cards). "It is absolutely great feeling to be in the main draw and especially if you fight for your place through qualifiers. But it can still be better. I will try to show my best tennis in the main draw, this is only beginning for me, " said Darya Kasatkina for www.empire-tennis-academy.com.

In the 1st round of main draw, Darya Kasatkina took over Julia Georges from Germany. Although she showed great fighting spirit, she lost with former 15th player in the world and with much more experienced player in two sets 6-7, 4-6.

Tamara Kupkova, coached by Martin Durdik, showed absolutely fantastic performance in the 1st qualifying round to send home Indonesian Shivani Manchanda after two sets 6-0, 6-1, but in the final qualifying round she fell short to Italian Martine Zerulo, after tough three sets 5-7, 6-4, 0-6.
