Tereza and David Suchan had chosen our club in Ireland via website and they like it almost immediately after arrival

Tereza (10) and David Suchan (11) had spotted Trnava club via website and for number of reasons decided to come here. They did not regret finally, as they moved from Ireland with their mom. "The facilities are incredible. But if we missed such a great atmosphere, the facilities would not help. We all have got a great welcome, we feel like at home in Trnava. Certainly, we recommend TC EMPIRE. A few people have come here due to our recommendation and they were satisfied," says Eva Nykodymova, mother of Tereza and David.

Why you have decided in June 2018 to come to Trnava?

"We wanted to try tennis also at home, outside of Ireland. So, we begin a little interested in clubs in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. I really wanted to go to the Czech club, but finally, at home, my children claimed to try Trnava. Children liked the club website, as the club’s area looks like and also the world class players were training there. So, we tried it and we did not go away. We do not need anything else. We had everything."

Would you recommend TC EMPIRE to other parents?

"Certainly. The place is unreal, it can be seen rarely even in the richer parts of the world. But if there was not such a great atmosphere there, the facilities would not help. We all have great welcome, we feel at home. Certainly, we recommend TC EMPIRE. A few people have come here due to our recommendation and they were satisfied."

Previously you lived in Ireland. Was that the place, where your kids started to play tennis?

"Yes, I worked as a tennis coach in Ireland, but paid childcare is very expensive there. That was the reason why I had my kids still at the courts, beside me. So, they started playing tennis."

Which clubs did they play before and who guided them in their beginnings?

"They went to the local clubs with me, probably when David was six years old and Tereza had four. They learned a little bit of play during the year, two, and then they were approached by coaches from the Dublin and Irish National Academy and started training there."

What is the work with kids in Irish tennis clubs?

"Irish culture has a totally different mentality than our continental and especially in Eastern Europe. They do not want to understand tennis. They want their children just to ENJOY THEIR ACTIVITY. It is all about making the kids happy, they don´t want for them making progress. In the national academy it is a slightly different, there they want from few children, which trained there, to make breakthrough in the world of tennis. Globally, the Irish NTC want to do a good thing, but had chosen the wrong way. Especially they do not realize any progress is able without competition. They do not have the possibility of playing tournaments elsewhere, not just in the places reaching by car. They live on the isolated island and their tennis looks like that. However, some of their players and coaches have the potential."

Did you play tennis or somebody in your family? At what level?

"I was playing when I was little, then quit when I was 13. The main reason was that my father thought he should train me. He did not want me to let myself go to other coaches. It stopped me from having fun with him. On the side courts next to me, was having fun for example Tomas Berdych in his group, but I had to play with my father. That's why I want to avoid mistakes and train my kids as little as possible. They do not even like to play with me."

Where do you see better approach in Trnava, in TC EMPIRE?

"Main difference is the trainers in Trnava know what they are doing. This was a big change comparing to Ireland. In Ireland, nobody knows what to do precisely, just trying new things. Here trainers have a great experience and at the same time they also want from children like to play tennis. I appreciate it, because I had spent 15 years in Ireland and there is some Ireland behavior in me (smile). I want my kids going to improve, but also to enjoy the tennis."

How did you deal with a new location in Slovakia?

"In Slovakia we wanted to live as close as possible to the academy and eventually we settled in Spacince near to Trnava. From our home to the academy it is just an eight-minute driving by car, which is great. David and Tereza are very satisfied."

Who works with your children as a coach?

"David trains with Jaroslav Kormys and Tereza with Michal Brtko. Both loved their coaches and enjoy tennis. That's the most important thing for me. At the same time, Vladimir Kurek and Marek Lukacovic helped them too. Thanks to them, and indeed to all the coaches in the groups, including the fitness coaches, I have seen how much they have improved since starting to play in TC EMPIRE."

What was the highlight of the 2018 season for your kids? For David, it was maybe the Slovak U12 Team Championships and participation in the Presov final and for Tereza the title in the U10 Kids Fed Cup…

"Yes, it certainly was. It was a fantastic experience for them that would never have been experienced in Ireland! Just for such moments, I know that the travelling to TC EMPIRE was worth it."

How did you like the WTA Finals in Singapore, which was dominated by former EMPIRE Tennis Academy member Elina Svitolina? Your kids looked like they enjoyed the tournament very much.

"The tournament was absolutely fantastic. Especially we had VIP seats thanks to EMPIRE Tennis Academy and Elina. In that case you will enjoy it even more."

How long are you going to stay in Asia and why you went there when there is a winter season in Europe?

"We're leaving by the end of March 2019. We are here because of Asian culture. This time we will stay here also because of work. Returning to Europe will not be easy, Asia is a completely different, but interesting world. Life is not the same here. People do not go for consumption, life is more enjoyable for them than for Europeans, although they had less money. On the other hand, kids are missing TC EMPIRE and they are looking forward to coming back. They are looking forward to their coaches, friends, but also for Hotel EMPIRE, lunch menu or Kofola drink outside in the summer Tennis Bar. As for Asia, I want from them to play at local tournaments as well. The level is also good here, and I see the advantage that kids have another summer season instead of endless waiting for a classic indoor tournament in Europe."
