Sramkova from EMPIRE Tennis Academy playing first time in Fed Cup team: To play for your country takes more than a skill

It’s already known for some days that Rebecca Sramkova is a part of Slovak Fed Cup team for a match Italy – Slovakia. 1st round World Group II match will be held on clay in Forli, Italy from February 11th to 12th. For EMPIRE Tennis Academy member it is a debut in a Slovak national team.

"I expected my nomination since I finished last season as the Slovak number 4 in the rankings. I was basically told at the Australian Open 2017 about the nomination. When I qualified to the main draw I was pretty sure to be nominated at 100 percent. I was very pleased," says Rebecca Sramkova for www.empire-tennis-academy.com.

It’s a special occasion for a 20-years-old tennis player, who is now at her career highest position – WTA ranking No. 117. "To play for your country it’s a dream of each player. When I was a kid I used to go to the Fed Cup matches as a spectator. To play for the national team - as a tennis player or another athlete, it raises the greatest emotions. When I watched Fed Cup, every single ball left the impressions at me."

What is Rebecca Sramkova looking forward in Italy most? "It’s a team atmosphere. I can get lot of experience, as we will practise all the week long. For me it's something completely new. I'm not nervous but I feel responsibility. But I have nothing to lose, since it is my first Fed Cup tie," continues winner if five ITF circuit titles. She prepared also in Trnava before the Fed Cup tie.

"I practised with my father and sparring partners in recent days. Before leaving to Italy on Monday, I came to Trnava to practise with Daria Kasatkina, since she arrived from a tournament in Russia. I am happy to play with sparring partners from Trnava EMPIRE Tennis Academy, too," reveals Rebecca Sramkova. She knows Kasatkina very well.
"At the tournaments we normally speak together, we played against each other at the tournaments under 14 and 16 years and or at the European Championships. We have always good match against each other. I remember our match at the European Championships, I hardly won 7-5 in the third set. And then she suddenly exploded  high in the WTA rankings. It's incredible," added Rebecca Sramkova.
Kasatkina got to the WTA rankings 24 under the EMPIRE Tennis Academy head-coach Vladimir Platenik.
