Andrej Martin, Igor Zelenay, Hans Podlipnik, Davis Cup

Members of EMPIRE Tennis Academy Andrej Martin and doubles specialist Igor Zelenay were in the Slovakian Davis Cup team against Hungary, played on clay in Budapest from 17th July. Both players were accompanied by their coach Miloslav Grolmus. Draw on Thursday determined, Andrej Martin to start the first singles match on Friday. He won the first point and after Sunday’s doubles, Slovakia have decided the match, leading 3-0.  From 16th to 18th September we will play third time in a row in play off for the World Group in Davis Cup. Hans Podlipnik was also successful together with the Chilean national team in Davis Cup.

Davis Cup Round 2, Europe/Africa Group 1 match between Hungary and Slovakia will be played in Európa Tenisz Center in Budapest. Slovakian captain Miloslav Mecir announced the team on press conference in NTC in Bratislava. "Preparations are smooth, according to our schedule. First two days were difficult, we concentrated more on tennis and now we are moving forward and we are focusing on the matches to come. Courts are bit harder than usual, so balls jump up high, but we got used to it. We stay in nice hotel beside the courts, so we have very good facilities here," said Andrej Martin before the draw on Thursday noon for www.empire-tennis-academy.com.
Andrej Martin had a great start into the match; he beat Nagy 6-4, 6-2, 6-4 to win first point for Slovakia. "It was very difficult to play in such windy conditions. It was not easy to get used to it, the more I am happy I won the match in three sets," said Andrej Martin for www.empire-tennis-academy.com. Kovalik afterwards beat Fucsovics in four sets 6-7(5), 6-4, 7-6(5) and 6-1 to give Slovakia promising lead going into the second day.

Doubles were scheduled to be played on Sunday at 15:30 and both EMPIRE Tennis players, Andrej Martin and Igor Zelenay paired up to win the third point for our country. Slovakians won in three sets 6-2, 6-2, 6-3 after match was several times rescheduled due to rain. Remaining singles were not played. "Courts were very slow, it was cold and wet. And windy of course. For our guys it was more or less advantage, as they could have showed their class. They played longer rallies, they had enough time to play the balls. They played much better than Hungarians, especially Andrej in the first half of the match. Igor stepped up with his performance in the second half of the match. End of the third set was more or less exhibition from our side. Congratulations guys, we are awaiting draw on Wednesday," said Miloslav Grolmus
Norbert Gombos and Jozef Kovalik were also in the Davis Cup team.
