One of the leading members of EMPIRE Tennis Academy Daria Kasatkina has started the new season 2016 in Auckland, New Zealand. Head coach of the academy Vladimir Platenik joined her after going through tough pre-season camp.

"Trainings were absolutely fantastic; we had great weather and conditions. Daria went through the pre-season camp as we have planned. It all lasted for six weeks. I think we have made another step forward," said her personal coach Vladimir Platenik.

After ASB Classic in Auckland, New Zealand (International category, prize money 226 750 USD), Daria Kasatkina moves on to APIA International in Sydney, Australia (Premier category, prize money 687 900 USD) and the climax of her program in the southern hemisphere will be Australian Open in Melbourne.

Daria Kasatkina faced Venus Williams in the first round of the ASB Classic in Auckland. Only 18-year-old Russian, who battled back from a set down - as well as 3-1 down in the third set - to win a thriller against the No.1 seed and defending champion at the International-level tournament, Venus Williams, 6-7(4), 6-3, 6-3. Daria Kasatkina's win over the World No.7 was her first Top 10 win - she had never played a Top 10 player. "I couldn't ask for a better start of the year!" she said after the win.

"It was important to fight and have enough self belief. Daria was very nervous, centre court was sold out and to play Venus in the opening match of the season makes it even more difficult. Daria proved to be fit and she fought hard for the win. I believe, such matches suggest she can make good progress this year. At the moment it is all about keeping head focused and discipline. I think we are on the right track. We are grateful to have TC EMPIRE Trnava and EMPIRE Tennis Academy and all our friends behind us," commented her coach Vladimir Platenik on sensational win for www.empire-tennis-academy.com.

Daria Kasatkina then lost in the second round to Nao Hibino from Japan (5-7, 6-2, 5-7).
