Brilliant start for Kalinina. First title at the first tournament

What a start! Anhelina Kalinina, the new member of the EMPIRE Tennis Academy from Trnava, won the first ITF tournament and opening event of the year in Florida. The DME Sports Women's Tennis Championship ($25,000) tournament was played outdoor - on green clay. The winner coached by Slovakian Vladimir Platenik was also awarded with 50 WTA ranking points.

Anhelina Kalinina, No. 154 at current WTA ranking, has won her first three clashes in straights sets. Her first demanding duel came in the semifinal against Kazakhstan Anna Dalinina, as she had to turn away in the third decisive sets. But she overcame some troubles during match and won 6-4, 3-6, 6-4. He lost the first set also in the final - against home player Grace Min 1-6, but then she proved she was the best in the tournament and won the last two sets:7-5, 6-0.

"Anhelina Kalinina has been struggled since the start of the tournament, but she's been fighting for it. She admitted that she did not work properly in the last few years, and she has to catch up on some aspects. This was the reason we chose to start on some smaller tournaments in the beginnings. Although her potentially bad game, she would have still chances for winning. That was the point. She had a chance to work on the right things, which I would like to teach her," said her coach Vladimir PlatenikHe likes how Anhelina was able to overcome opponents during semifinal clash. "She did it because of enormous fighting and her improvement with physical condition. She finally showed what she is, when she was down 0-3 in the final set. And I think that was important," meant Vladimir Platenik

"As about final, she started very cautiously, she preferred to concentrate on opponent´s backhand, which was not good idea. But she understood early this was not the ideal way how to be successful. She needed Min to run a lot and she did it. She played her best in the third set and that was the key for the victory. American player went mentally down," added Vladimir Platenik
